Immigration Resources

Everyone in the U.S. has rights under the Constitution, regardless of immigration status. The resources below come from government offices and trusted nonprofit organizations serving Houston’s immigrant communities. Save this page and share it with family, friends, and neighbors.

If a Family Member or Loved One Is Detained

Contact Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia’s office. Her office serves all constituents regardless of immigration status and can help families navigate the system when a loved one is detained.

  • Houston District Office: (832) 325-3150 — 11811 East Freeway, Suite 430, Houston, TX 77029
  • Immigration Resources – Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia: Her office’s page also includes printable “Know Your Rights” red cards in English and Spanish, as well as recordings of Know Your Rights town halls.

To locate someone in immigration custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator at ICE.gov — you will need the person’s full name and country of birth, or their A-number (alien registration number).

Legal Help

A word of caution: Only accept legal advice from a licensed attorney or a Department of Justice-accredited representative. Notarios and immigration “consultants” are not authorized to give legal advice, and fraud is common. The organizations above can point you to legitimate help.

City of Houston Services

  • Office of New Americans and Immigrant Communities: The City’s office serving immigrant and refugee communities, with information on citizenship, legal service referrals, and other city resources available to all residents regardless of status.
